Modeling is not architecture

The medallion architecture organizes a pipeline into layers. It says nothing about how to model the information.

The medallion architecture has become very popular lately, and with it, confusion between data modeling and data architecture has become more common.

The medallion architecture organizes a transformation pipeline into layers of responsibility, usually called Bronze, Silver and Gold. It helps organize which kinds of quality and modeling tasks belong in each layer.

But it has no say in how we should model a body of information. It is not, in itself, a data model.

The piece that made me write this is Modellion by David Jayatillake: short, and worth reading.
